What about a diploma and will my child be
accepted at a college?

|
But my child has special educational need. How can I home school?

| What
about my child's social needs? Will my child be unable to fit it with
children who have gone to regular public or private schools?
People seem to me to be
defining socialized as being able to get along with
their peers. Exclusively. I do not so define it. To be
truly well socialized and well adjusted one must be able to interact,
hold conversation, respect and be respected by a wide variety of age
groups of people.
Only in schools
do people tend to be segregated by age. In the work force, in
organizations and in social situations most of the time there
will be a variety of ages. People who have attended age
segregated schools have been institutionalized not socialized. They can
be crippled in one of two ways. They may tend to
either be popular and depend on the approval of their peers or
if they are not so popular they may distrust and maybe even
be afraid of or have an anger or bitterness toward them that
grows with each further intimidation tactic. These are
tendencies that abound in any public school in the nation. These are
not people that I want my children to "fit in with".
Do you?
I want my
children to be able to make others feel welcome when in our home, to
carry on a conversation with those they meet that strikes up one
with them, and to feel confident in the presences of most any type of
group.
For the most part
I find home educated people able to do all of the above.
Children raised in a home where the parents love them and show
approval and interest in them and where they are protected until they
are able and mature enough to face the storms of life tend
to be more confident.
